WORKSHOPS FOR THE 2022-2023 COLLEGE APPLICATION CYCLE HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.
"Hi Megan,
Last year you provided excellent support for my son T. He submitted 7 applications as was accepted to all 7 universities. I believe the essay helped admission officers gain great insight into T. Thanks again for your help. He loved the essay! The writing captured him perfectly. T was able to send the common application schools out by Oct 29 slightly ahead of schedule. The essay was perfect. It was a perfect reflection of T.

This group session is designed to kick start the college essay process. At the end of the session, you will be well on your way with a working draft of your main college essay. Results-driven workshops are designed to accomplish the following:
Students abandon the 5-paragraph essay format and learn how to capture and hold a reader's attention, write in a "show; don't tell" way, and use appropriate and engaging voice. They also learn criteria for determining winning content as well as a new technique for capturing the details.
Students will creatively tap into their own perspectives and experiences through a series of free-writing techniques and exercises.
Through discussion and instructor feedback, students receive guidance for their own personal essay ideas: Am I on the right track? What does the reader learn about me? Does the essay offer an accurate representation of who I am, or does it simply answer a generic prompt?
"YALE YALE YALE YALE YALE THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING MEGAN Oh! I got into Yale, Duke, Berkeley, Michigan, Georgia tech, and Rutgers..."
This group session is designed for students applying to "highly selective" and "most selective" programs, and who are required to write several supplemental (school-specific) essays. This program is designed to kick start your supplemental essays with the fundamentals that we absolutely must cover, whether privately or one-on-one. Thus this program has been designed to deliver the information in the most efficient and effective way possible. Results-driven workshops are designed to:
A thorough examination of "supplements that worked" from my recent students accepted into top tier schools. What makes these essays effective? How will the applicant add value to the program? How did the applicant market his/her specialty? How did the applicant indicate a love for learning, self-guided learning, innovation, care for others and for the planet?
You know that prompt about why you have chosen your particular major? There's a lot more to it than that; what do they really want to know? Oh, and why do so many top schools ask some variation on "a community to which you belong"? Let's talk about that, as well as some other popular (as well as the more cryptic) ones too!
Learn what kind of information to include about the school, dig deep into who and what's important there, and find out how to build your case around these things.
Through discussion, collaboration, peer and instructor feedback, students receive guidance on their supplement content: How's my sales pitch? Is my specialty clear and compelling?
"Dear Megan, I wanted to thank you for all of your assistance with the SAT Prep and College Essays for B. It made a world of difference having you work with her!!!"- C.
Workshops are great for students at any stage of their SAT prep. We cover some brief strategy, followed by proctored sections of Reading, Writing & Language, and Math. We then go over answers– this immediate feedback really helps students to understand what they need to work on. Best part is they leave with a score estimate, which is an excellent predictor of what they would get during the real deal.
For students who are just getting started, this score earned in workshop would be used as a benchmark from which to assess future progress on the test. For students who are scheduled for an upcoming test, workshops give last minute pointers as well as predict their score, so they feel confident in their test readiness.
Top scorers know that the ONLY way to get there is to carve out the time,
so join us every Sunday morning to prep for the SAT!
Workshops are designed to supplement PRIVATE, SEMI-PRIVATE TUTORING and/or INDEPENDENT PREPARATION. In other words, students are expected to follow a separate test prep regimen IN ADDITION to taking workshops. Independent students, as well as currently enrolled students of MK Advising OR outside test prep programs, are welcome to participate.
